Cassina

Cassina has been designing the future of interiors for 90 years. Founded by Cesare and Umberto Cassina in 1927 in Meda, the company inaugurated industrial design in Italy in the 1950s according to a totally new logic that marks the transition from artisanal to serial production.
The company is the first to take on an attitude of research and innovation, combining technological capacity with a great tradition of craftsmanship. For the first time, important architects and designers are involved and encouraged to imagine new forms to be transformed into projects, a feature that still distinguishes the company. Today Cassina continues to represent new lifestyles with the creation of harmonious environments that collect the best of contemporary design.

Cassina is particularly specialized in woodworking and in the production of upholstered furniture. All products today are in fact branded with the MedaMade logo, a guarantee of the quality and uniqueness of locally produced objects.
Cassina has received four Compasso d’Oro awards for individual products, including the Maralunga sofa by Vico Magistretti in 1979, and to the company itself in 1991 in recognition of its contribution to industrial production.
In 1964, with the acquisition of the exclusive worldwide reproduction rights of four models designed by Le Corbusier (then living), Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, serial production of the Cassina I Maestri Collection begins. In the following years, the collection brought together some of the most iconic furnishings of the architects of the great classics of the twentieth century (Gerrit T. Rietveld, Charles R. Mackintosh, E. Gunnar Asplund, Frank Lloyd Wright, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini, Marco Zanuso ) with the aim of spreading their cultural values. An authentic reconstruction of re-editions studied with the utmost attention and respecting the original models, working in close contact with the heirs and official foundations of the authors.

There are many Italian and international architects and designers who have collaborated and still collaborate with the company for the Cassina I Contemporanei Collection, including: Vico Magistretti, Gio Ponti, Mario Bellini, Rodolfo Dordoni, Konstantin Grcic, Jaime Hayon, Piero Lissoni Gaetano Pesce and Philippe Starck. Their innovations to interpret the contemporary habitat have resulted in a series of visions that have marked the evolution of Italian design.
In 2015, the Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola was appointed artistic director of Cassina.

GEROSA DESIGN, owner of the DESIGN ICONS website, is an Italian and international reference point (Switzerland, European Union, United States, Asia…) for the entire collection of Cassina products.
